No sleep

833

Just for fun, here is a record of a night with Nora.  Yup, that’s right, her sleep has gone to sh&!  (Sorry it’s so sloppy—I wrote this for myself to try and figure out what the heck is going on without intending to share.)  From 0-3 she slept 5 hours, then woke up to nurse twice for less then 5 minutes each time and went right back to sleep.  Oh how I wish we could return to those days…. For the last month and a half she has slowly started waking up more and more.  Now things are all just crap.  I was so hopeful with how well she slept early on that I wasn’t going to have to deal with sleep issues again…as I have written before Joseph was a horrible, horrible sleeper (he didn’t consistently sleep through the night until about 4 and a 1/2).  I don’t think I have recovered from that yet.

I’m very conflicted about how to deal with Nora: just deal with it and hope it’s a phase or institute some for of “sleep training.”  We will see.  If you want to share advice or just commiserate I would love to hear!  If your child slept through the night from 2 weeks and everything was always hunky dory I don’t want to hear from you.

HAHAHA... love the last line!
I am so glad you decided to post that list. I wish I had made some sleep records!
As you know, Kaia has not been a great sleeper for some time. It is only in the last month or so that I have started to see light at the end of the tunnel! (Or rather, have avoided lights and stayed in a dark blanket-tunnel ALL night). I think I mentioned to you that, when Travis brought Kaia to the Dr. for a rash 2 weeks ago, the Dr. also diagnosed her with an ear infection. We had no clue! She wasn't feverish or overly fussy or tugging on her ear or anything! Since treating the rash and the ear infection Kaia has treated us to a string of solid, 11-hour nights. SO... I would definitely talk to Nora's Dr. about the sleep issue! She might have a painful rash or an ear infection or some other weird thing going on. AAAAANNNND... don't forget she's a baby, and lack of sleep is part of the deal for most of us. :)
We have stuck to the same technique for both girls: They slept in my room (mixed crib and co-sleeping) and I just didn't sleep for the first 15 mo (Sophia) or 12 mo (Kaia), and then they were moved to a crib in their own room. We kept their rooms dark and ran a humidifier in the winter and a sound machine in the summer. There. That's what worked for us. Mostly I think it was just time, though! Good luck!

Woah--11 hours! Awesome! I am so glad I have you talk all this over with. And to set me strait. And she obviously does have a rash--the horrible excema--and more and more I see her itching at it. Perhaps that is contributing. Since we have insurance now (!!!) I am going to make an appointment with an allergist. Also, she had two of these horrible nights, but then last night was much better. She woke 4 times, but went right back to sleep each time. It's kind of sad when 4 night wakings feels great, but I seriously had so much more energy today I was almost hyper! (Well, nothing like back-in-the-day-hanging-with-benny hyper...)
