Job ADD??

As you probably know, I decided not to return to my teaching position last year and ever since have been searching for a job that fits my life. I am dreaming of three days a week, with benefits, decent pay, fulfilling social services position, etc . . . anyways right now I am substituting at two local preschools and liking it more than I expected! The other day though I was chatting with a friend who has been supportive throughout this whole process, when she happened to mention that she had only ever had two jobs and NEVER been through this whole, apply, interview, check references, etc . . . process. She worked at one local place throughout and after college, working her way up to director, and now works (very hard) for herself, but everything I am through is foreign to her. This certainly surprised me, and also got me thinking about the TONS of positions I have had throughout my 26 years. And, since I love putting lists here, I decided to put together the following:

Ruth S. Bernstein, Paid Positions
General Helper, Lois Perfect (what a great first job!!)

Pancakes!

Sundays around here mean pancakes or french toast, and as I was cooking this morning I realized pancakes are another every day, yummy, easy, recipe. AND you can sneak in veggies! Basically, you can put anything in them. I throw it all together, do something different every time, and never measure. I also plan to try freezing some so we have a good easy week-day breakfast, but so far I haven't had any leftovers.

Basic recipe:

1 1/2 C Bisquick
1/2 C whole wheat flour
1 C milk
2 eggs
(I like to add little bit of sugar, baking powder, and vanilla)

Add ins:
  • pureed cooked squash, pumpkin, or sweet potato, cinnamon, and nutmeg

This is what I have been doing a lot lately. I roasted my squash from the garden a couple weeks ago (end of the growing season) then pureed it in the food processor and froze it in 4 oz glass canning jars. Now I have a nice healthy and easy add in I can grab and sneak in to all sorts of dishes. I have a couple pumpkins I plan to cook up soon.

  • blueberries
  • mini chocolate chips
  • raisins
  • grated apple and cinnamon
  • mashed banana and walnuts
  • oatmeal
  • wheat germ
  • flax seeds

I don't get creative with the topping--we always stick to good ol' maple syrup. Joseph will even tell you that maple syrup comes from maple trees!

August pictures

Trying to catch up on posting pics. We had such a FUN summer!!

FIELD DAYS!!

Handmowing (0r sything) competition. Uncle Marc took second over-all and Nora (gram) got first in her class (the Roger Shattuck Memorial)!

Trying out the neighboors new go-cart!

Waitsfield Fair with cousin Jacob, Grandma Hotte, and Aunts Jen and Amy!

He must have gone through that fun house atleast 20 times!

And on all the rides about 20 times each. He also went on a "big kid" ride--something with seats on big claw-like arms that went up in the air and spun around VERY fast--twice and loved that. I was quite surprised!

Another very important part of summer!

Playtime at our house

Nora's bday--a really wonderful family get-together. My batteries died--again--so I didn't take many pictures, but we had a blast as always, including fire, food, drink, and dance!!!

Day at the river with Courtney, Wyatt, and Isabel
